Privacy Policy

The short version

sngwrtr is a songwriting tool operated by SNGWRTR Software Inc., a California corporation at 1820 Whitley Ave Apt 418, Los Angeles, CA 90028. We built it for songwriters, and we treat your words the way we’d want ours treated. We never train AI models on your lyrics, and we never sell your data. The rest of this page is the detail behind that promise.

What we collect

• Your account. When you sign up, we store your email address and a display name so you can log in and so your work follows you across devices.
• Your writing. The songs, lyrics, notes, seeds, moodboard images and voice memos you create are saved so they sync to your account. They belong to you.
• Your preferences. Settings like your dialect, themes and bucket customizations, so the app behaves the way you set it.
• Basic technical data. Standard request logs needed to run and secure the service.

Importing from other apps

An import only ever runs when you ask for one, on material you picked. Whatever arrives becomes your content in your account and is treated like everything else on this page: never sold, never used to train a model.

Google Drive. If you choose to import a Google Doc, sngwrtr uses Google’s drive.file permission. This is the narrowest Drive scope Google offers: it only lets us read the specific files you personally pick in the Google file picker. We cannot see, list, or touch anything else in your Drive. We use the picked file once, to import its text into your song, and we do not store your Drive contents beyond the song you created from it. If instead you paste a Drive link, we read it through Google’s own public endpoints, which works only while the file is shared in a way that permits it, and no Drive permission is involved at all.

Apple Notes and Apple Voice Memos. Apple publishes no interface for either, so sngwrtr reads nothing from your device, your iCloud account or any Apple service. You export from Apple’s own app and hand us the result by pasting it or dropping the file in, and from that moment it is simply your content.

Pinterest, DISCO and Spotify. These are read without any account of yours. We fetch the public board, the share link or the public playlist you give us, from that service’s own public interface, and you connect nothing and give us no credentials. For Spotify we identify sngwrtr with our own application key, never a login of yours. Pictures you then choose from a Pinterest board are copied into your project and stored with the rest of your work; a Spotify playlist arrives as track names for your credits, and no audio is copied.

Samply. Samply requires a personal token, which you create in your own Samply settings. That token is kept in your browser and nowhere else. It is sent with each import you run so Samply will answer, and it is never written to our database or logs. Clearing it in the import window, or clearing your browser storage, removes it; revoking it in Samply ends the access regardless.

[untitled]. The app opens untitled.stream in its own window and you use it yourself. We do not sign in for you, we are not given your credentials, and what comes back to us is the track names and lengths you bring over.

Your own files. Audio, images and documents you upload are stored with the rest of your work, as described in Where your data lives below.

What we never do

• We do not train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model on your lyrics or writing.
• We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data or your creative work.
• We do not show your private songs to other users. Collaboration only happens on songs you explicitly share.

Payments

When you buy a paid plan, checkout and payment are handled by our reseller and Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy. They collect and process your card and billing details under their own privacy policy. We never see or store your full card number. We receive only what we need to give you the plan you paid for ~ things like your email, plan name, and subscription status.

Voice transcription

If you ask sngwrtr to transcribe a voice memo, that single audio file is sent to our speech-to-text provider (OpenAI) to turn it into text and returned to you. Under that provider’s API terms, your audio is not used to train their models. If you never use transcription, none of your audio is sent.

Where your data lives

Your account and content are stored with our hosting and database providers (Supabase, Vercel and Cloudflare R2), who process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments, on servers in the United States. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections. If you use sngwrtr from outside the United States, your data is transferred there.

AI features

The rhyme engine is not AI. Every rhyme, every vowel bucket and every column in this app is phonetics and our own rules. It was built by hand over years, it is the reason this exists, and no model is involved in any part of it. If you never touch anything below, you never touch an AI here.

Nothing reaches an AI unless you ask it to, every single time. There is no background model reading your work, no setting that quietly turns one on, and nothing that runs while you write. The handful of features that use one say so on the spot, and using one is a thing you do, not a thing that happens to you.

When you do use one, the text you chose goes to the provider, the answer comes back, and that is the end of it. It is never used to train a model ~ not theirs, not ours. We do not keep a copy to improve anything with, and your lyrics are not a dataset.

Where it is used today: the lyrical world in Rhymes, which re-sorts your results around a word or two you type; line suggestions in Lyrics; and transcription of a voice memo you ask to transcribe. That is the list. If a feature is added to it, it will carry the same notice.

What it is for. A tool beside you, never a writer instead of you. We are songwriters and we are not interested in a machine that writes the song; we are interested in one that fetches, sorts and remembers so you can keep your hands on the words. Anything that starts to feel like the second thing does not ship.

Your choices

• You can edit or delete your songs and other content at any time inside the app.
• You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from Settings, under Account. You can also ask us to do it by email.
• You can disconnect Google Drive access at any time from your Google Account permissions.
• You can clear your Samply token from the Samply import window, and revoke it entirely at samply.app/preferences/api. The other imports hold no credentials of yours to disconnect.

California privacy rights

We are a California company, so this is said plainly: we do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, which means there is nothing for you to opt out of. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, or ask us to delete it, by email, and we will not treat you differently for asking. Deleting your account from Settings already does the last one.
